OUR MISSION

The call for sustainable, compassionate solutions has never been louder. Amongst the natural and economic disasters of the last decade, the need to protect our planet has never been more critical. One Cat Foundation creates thriving conditions for animals, employees and the greater community, through:

Improving conditions for captive animals and lions worldwide

Anti-poaching efforts

Creating self-sustaining communities in South Africa and the United States.

Educational Programs and Trade Scholarships

Creating unique and upwardly mobile job opportunities for disadvantaged and discriminated groups

Our team is comprised of animal experts, scientists, and business leaders representing 5 countries and 4 continents, all brought together by a love of lions and passion for our planet.

ONE PERSON, ONE CAT , ONE COMMUNITY AT A TIME.

WHY DO LIONS NEED OUR HELP?

100 years ago, 200,000 lions roamed the earth, spread out across Asia, Africa, and parts of Europe. Today, only 20,000 wild lions remain, with populations above 1,000 in only 7 African countries. Asiatic lions are critically endangered, comprised of about 500 remaining in one last place, India's Gir National Park. In just the last 75 years, Africa's lion population has declined 90%, and 80-90% of their historic range has been co-opted by man. If these rates continue, by 2050, lions will go extinct.

The most dangerous threats to lions are:

Habitat loss due to development

Bushmeat and lion bone trade

Trophy hunting and poaching

Human conflict over food and perceived threat

We would all love to see lions returned to the wild, but the reality is the future for wild lions looks bleak. New figures report 60% of wildlife has been eradicated since 1970. Stricter government regulations, armed protective services, and land trust allocation are all necessary initiatives for protecting the last remaining wild cats, but private citizens can make a huge difference just by implementing even one sustainable solution.  Several amazing organizations around the globe are working towards reversing these alarming trends. And what about the thousands of animals already and still to be born in captivity? Unless drastic changes are made now and land expanded across every last lion stronghold, the reality is that the survival of the species will fall to captive and semi-captive methods of sustainability.

That’s where One Cat strives to make a difference. We believe caring for these animals, is a privilege, not a human right. Even now, at the best reserves and parks around the world, space is limited. We can't give them back all that's been lost, but we can, as individuals and coalitions, make sure that those captive lions who are left, are healthy, happy, and thriving.

OUR GOALS

TODAY we hope to provide our cats with the best food, habitat, enrichment, and medical care possible.

TOMORROW we hope to rescue more cats from inhospitable or dangerous conditions, and provide them with bigger and better enclosures.

THE FUTURE we hope to build is to secure land and build an expandable ecosystem in which lions, humans, and animals of all types can sustainably thrive economically, socially, and environmentally.

CURRENT PARTNERSHIP INITIATIVES

HELP ANIMALS IN UKRAINE TODAY!

JOIN US.

HELP ANIMALS TRAPPED BY WAR IN UKRAINE.

Please help us provide immediate and direct help when and where it is needed in Ukraine. We’ve all seen the pictures of thousands of families loyally carrying their beloved dogs and cats while evacuating by train, car, even on foot.

WHAT ABOUT THE ANIMALS WHO CANNOT TRAVEL?

The following facilities are just the beginning of how we hope to help through the war and eventual rebuilding process. Food and veterinary care/medicine are top priorities for now, but funds are also being set aside for potential evacuation, if it becomes necessary and safe routes become available. Some animals are permanent residents trying to stay in their homes. Some are war fosters, who hope to be reunited with their families and caretakers when peace resumes.
