BASIC CARE
Lions' basic needs are food, clean water, safety, shelter, space, and stimulation. Here's where we come in - helping purchase alternative meat supplies so every lion gets their 35-50 kilos a week, helping improve and build water features, expanding and building large enclosures, implementing the strictest safety protections for lions and staff, and making sure the lions are as healthy mentally as they are physically! One Cat volunteers their time and sponsors building costs to making sure these needs are met. Furthermore, the current problem of poaching, for trophies and the lion bone trade, is an ongoing threat, not just to wild lions, but captive lions all across Africa as well. Poachers are well-funded and organized, and many sanctuaries need additional help and security to protect the Cats they champion.
ENRICHMENT
Lions are lazy animals, preferring to spend up to 20 hours a day sleeping and resting. Wild lions exercise through hunting, exploring, and play, but since captive lions are fed, it's up to caregivers to keep them active and enriched. From toys to food (even herbs and spices - lions love catnip!), balls to bubbles, we are always trying to find new ways to engage our lions' natural curiosity.
RESCUE
Perhaps the biggest blight on the captive lion industry is canned hunting, where lions are raised to trust humans, only to have that trust betrayed as they are led into the sight of a hunter, eager to bring home a trophy. Many of these breeding farms raise their cats in deplorable conditions and subject the females to unnatural and uncontrolled breeding cycles. While we can't save every lion, One Cat co-founder Alexey Tikhonov has already rescued 9 lions from this cruel fate and with time, we hope to save many more.
MEDICAL
Every animal caretaker knows, veterinary expenses are high. From chipping to vaccinations, injury to contraception, routine flea and tick relief to antibiotics, the cost of medical care for lions is even higher. On-site veterinary care and sedation is necessary for certain procedures, but One Cat believes top-quality medical care is also a basic right of the animals we care for. Furthermore, we also seek to do genetic testing on all of our lions to keep genetic records clear for this diminishing species.

Do you want to Sponsor A Lion?
Every day lions are born into captivity, separated from their mothers, many of them placed in overcrowded, inbred camps where only the strongest survive. For the ones that do survive, their future is uncertain – they may be placed in a small cramped concrete cage, alone; they may be sold for hunting. They may be malnourished, neglected, poached or abused.
You can change that. You can be the voice for a better way. You can ensure the best medical care, nourishment, and enrichment that lion needs to thrive for the rest of its natural life. You can save a lion’s life, while supporting local efforts in sustainability and community empowerment.
Sponsoring a cub allows you to be a direct part in saving the last lions on earth.
Your generous gift ensures one lion a life filled with the 6 S's:
Sustenance, Safety, Shelter, Stimulation, Socialization, and Space.
Even more, your gift directly impacts the lives of South Africans, by providing jobs and contributing to scholarship and training programs for the people who dedicate their lives to care for your lion.
Join thousands of others to a revolutionary movement to improve man, lion, community, and the planet.
Your generosity has a DIRECT impact on all of our futures. Donate today and see your gift go 100% to see lions thrive.
